I followed those instructions but still couldn’t find it in the registry, so maybe it’s gone but the files from it are still there or something?  At any rate, I don’t think it’s doing any damage.

The only virus that has the term “istbar” in it is actually not a virus, but an adware program installed that adds a search bar to your internet explorer, causes pop-ups, resets your home page to something else, and hijacks all search engine requests….  To read about it, go here:

It will tell you how to remove it as well.  If that’s not what you have, go to http://www.symantec.com/search and look for the virus it says you have… They will usually have either manual removal instructions posted step-by-step, or else they’ll have a tool you can download to automatically remove the specific threat.  Best of luck… let me know the results.

I have a virus on my computer (hmm…roommates…).  The anti-virus program (which is updated) says it’s called like TROJ_ISTBAR or something like that, but it says it can’t clean it. I downloaded something that supposed to destroy trojans but it’s not working, and i keep finding more files that are infected.  Crap crap.  What should I do?
